Getting in the spirit of the Spiritual Conference: August 2018 Discipleship is a journey (follow me, said Jesus), not a status. Witness to the Gospel is often a spontaneous response to the unpredictable surprises the Holy Spirit has in store for us! The journey is never as clear as a “guided tour”, with a fixed starting point and a specific end. Nor is it always easy for us to know where we are on our missionary journey as disciples and witnesses to the Good News of God’s Kingdom.
As you prepare yourself for the Spiritual Conference, you will find it helpful to think back on the story of your own vocation to follow Christ in the way of St. Francis of Assisi. You will want to spend some time reflecting on where you are on the journey, how you got there, and where you think God is leading you still.
Here are some reflections/questions for your personal reflection that will bring you into the spirit of the Spiritual Conference, even before you get here.
In what ways do you feel God is in your life right now?
Are there things in life that you feel yourself particularly hungering for?
What is happening in your world and the world today that stir up feelings of anxiety, fear, or uncertainty?
What are the more pressing questions that you would like to ask God right now?
What do you look most look forward to in gathering with your Franciscan brothers and sisters at the Spiritual Conference?
