Course for Spiritual Assistants
Dear brothers and sisters in Francis and Clare,
I have been asked to distribute this email and the attachment to those who might aspire to become Spiritual Assistants for an OFS fraternity.
The on-line Spiritual Assistant course is called A Course for Spiritual Assistants. It was created by a committee of regional spiritual assistants, including Fr. Peter Knaapen OFM Conv. – one of our National Spiritual Assistants.
It is primarily designed for those Secular Franciscans aspiring to become Spiritual Assistants for an OFS fraternity (other than their own). But as the course contains a lot of general material on Franciscan spirituality, it is offered to those who may be interested in taking it just for their own spiritual advancement.
The Course starts October 15 so don't delay in applying. More information and the contact to apply can be found in the attachment.
Anyone can register for the course but, I encourage each fraternity council to consider and approach at least one of their members and recommend they take the course. We have many vacancies and coming vacancies in our region that need to be filled.
Shalom,
Michel

SPIRITUAL ASSISTANT COURSE
The on-line Spiritual Assistant course is called A Course for Spiritual Assistants. It was created by a committee of regional spiritual assistants, including Fr. It is primarily designed for those Secular Franciscans aspiring to become Spiritual Assistants for an OFS fraternity (other than their own). The course consists of twelve chapters. At the end of each chapter are questions to reflect on and share with the instructor and the other students. Two chapters are scheduled per month.
This course is not academic. Those who want to take the course should not feel intimidated. (The teacher’s a real softy.)
It is offered free of charge. The only thing that is required of the students is to put in a good effort. The course provides the opportunity for Seculars from across Canada to meet online with each other. The sharing of reflections on their mutual love of serving Christ through the Franciscan charism creates friendships and strengthens the sense of belonging to a national Franciscan community. There will be occasional supplementary Skype meetings as well where students get to see those they have been sharing with.
The course will start on Oct. 16 with the first chapter questions to be responded to by Oct. 30. To register and receive the course materials please email Br Gerry Clyne at: gerryclyne@outlook.com.

On-Going Formation Ideas
Here is the start of some Ongoing Formation Ideas that fraternities can use in their meetings. Some are prepared in Powerpoint and also provided in a PDF version giving options for presentation. The Powerpoint version will allow you to make modifications if desired.
This is an example of a fraternity formation liturgy based on the Canticle of Creation. The publication of “Laudato Si’,” the Pope’s encyclical on the environment, unites two holy men separated by 800 years but who share a name (Francis) and a common vision of a world built on communion, not competition, and a planet protected in beauty and sustained in abundance for generations to come.

This program was prepared as an Advent liturgy for use by fraternities. It includes a series of scripture readings and Christmas hymns interspersed with photo images to help create a atmosphere for moments of spiritual reflection.... Preferably the music is provided by the fraternity's own musicians which could be done acapella.
