Bridge of Roses |
Passed away peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital on June 2, 2021 at the age of 74 following a stroke that occurred just a few short days previous. She is survived by her sons, Randy Gulyas and Stephen Gulyas (Denise). She was passionately proud of her four grandchildren: Savannah, Jasmyn, Chloe, and Max. She was predeceased by her parents Desmond and Ursula "Skip" Dooling. |
Donna was a vibrant woman, always quick with a joke and a laugh. A mischievous prankster, a loving mother and grandmother, a compassionate caregiver to those in need, and a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan who waited until the Habs knocked out the Leafs before she passed (sorry, Leafs fans), she was loved by the many souls she touched. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses at Grand River Hospital and Hamilton General Hospital, as well as the caring and supportive members of the EMS team who took Donna into their care. A private funeral mass was held at the Basilica of Our Lady Church, 28 Norfolk Street, Guelph on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Cremation followed. Interment at Marymount Ceme-tery, Guelph. Memorial donations to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, an organization that she supported and shared in their belief of "...seeing Christ in anyone who suffers, coming together as family, having personal contact with the poor, and helping in all possible ways."
We miss you dearly, but we know that you are at peace in company with Christ. We know that you were fiercely independent and passed in the way you would have pre-ferred, humbly and swiftly. We know that your love for your family will continue for eternity. We know that you were called to the Lord all of your life, and you are now with Him. We know that you will be with us, always.

Rest In Peace Frances Mackenzie née Russo, ofs
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that our Sister Fran has gone to her eternal reward. Fran died peacefully yesterday evening (Tuesday June 22, 2021), with her Franciscan Sister Judy by her side holding her hand. I will inform you when I receive information about funeral arrangements. May Fran’s Soul, and the Souls of all the Faithful Departed, Through the Mercy of God, Rest In Peace. Pax et Bonum, Moira Matthews, Minister St. Francis of the IHM Fraternity, Ottawa. Our beloved sister Fran Mackenzie has departed this earthly life to join her name’s sake, Francis, in eternal life. Few of us who knew Fran would forget her after their first meeting. Blessed with a warm personality, she had the unofficial nickname of Miss Hospitality. She would be the first to greet guests at our fraternity meetings, at our conferences, Elective Chapters, and at our celebrations of the Transitus, and Professions. Her smile was warm, her interest in getting to know you, genuine, and her need to make sure that everyone was fed, and fed heartily, at our socials, resolute. Trustworthy to a fault, Fran was among the first to volunteer for any event, and the last to leave. Many of our OFS brothers and sisters as well as those who crossed her path, were the beneficiates of her generosity. We will remember Fran each in our own way, but without a doubt, she epitomized the Franciscan virtues of Compassion, Prayer, Integrity, Humility, Service, Generosity, Faithfulness, Hospitality, Charity and Goodness. Ciao Bella. May the Lord give you His Peace. Michel David, Regional Minister | With deep sorrow, the family announces Fran's passing on June 22, 2021 at 89 years of age. Daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Vocisano) Russo of Montreal. Wife of the late Colin (2020) and proud mother of Harland. Caring sister of Betty Weatherby (John) and Peggy Gajewski (Stanley). Predeceased by her siblings Charlie, Tony, Joe, Bill, Tom, Henry and Louise. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, her sister-in-law Margaret, and cousins in Italy and Australia. Many thanks to Dr. S. Verma for his sound medical advice over the years, and to Judy Wyspianski for her care and compassion. Arrangements in care of the Kelly Funeral Home Walkley Chapel, 1255 Walkley Road, Ottawa, K1V 6P9, 613-731-1255. Due to current pandemic restrictions, a Memorial Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 1758 Alta Vista Road, Ottawa. Inurnment at North Horton Cemetery, Renfrew. In Memoriam donations to the Secular Franciscans are appreciated by the family.
