Ottawa has lost another member of its OFS community with the passing on June 22 of Daphne D'Souza at the young age of 105. Born in Madras, India, she retired and moved to Canada in 1975.
Daphne was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Fraternity in Ottawa and though not my official mentor during my Formation, her presence epitomized the Franciscan charism of humility, poverty and minority.
Though a medical Doctor, you would never hear it from her. She volunteered with St. Teresa of Calcutta but again, you'd never hear it from her. Her smile and searching eyes; that's what we saw and remember. She looked into our souls. She is fondly remembered by our older members, who visited her on a regular basis.
Her Obituary and details of the Wake and Mass can be found at:
May she rest in Peace.
