Pettipas, Roger Francis
Published: March 15, 2022
Born in 1948 in Goose Bay, N.L., while the then-young family was stationed there with the RCAF, Roger had one older brother, Leo and two younger siblings, Gerry and Joanne. As with military families, Roger ended up living on several air force bases across the country: Gorsebrook in Halifax, St. Sylvestre Que., Beaverbank, Portage la Prairie Man., and Halifax before his father retired and the family moved to East Chezzetcook. Once graduated from high school, Roger went on to study chemical technology at the Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology in Sydney. He subsequently found employment with Nova Scotia Food and Drug, and after many years of serving with distinction, he retired from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in Dartmouth. Roger’s interest in organ music led him to acquire on his own a skill in playing the organ. His deep religious sentiments found expression in the Third Order of St. Francis and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was recently diagnosed with cancer; he succumbed to the complications from this and other ailments on March 12, 2022, in the Halifax Infirmary Site, QEII. He leaves his other siblings, Leo (Katherine) of St. Norbert Man.; Archbishop Gerard of Grande Prairie, Alta.; and Joanne in East Chezzetcook; his former wife, Janice (Gillis), and several extended family members in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario. A wake will be held in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street, Dartmouth, today, March 15th, 7-9 p.m., with a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa’s Church, North Street, Halifax, tomorrow, March 16th, at 11 a.m., with Archbishop Gerard Pettipas presiding. Interment will take place at 3 p.m. in St. Genevieve Cemetery, East Chezzetcook. Donations may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
